Liver Detox Tea
The tea helps with the flushing process itself, but also helps minimize any discomfort or nausea.
The key herb in the tea is dandelion root, one of the strongest herbal lipotropics known. That is to say, it flushes fat deposits from the liver.
Other herbs that you will find in the tea include things like: ginger, clove, cinnamon, burdock root, and horsetail. Incidentally, some of the other herbs used in the tea (such as uva ursi, parsley root, and juniper berries) are also extremely beneficial to the kidneys.
Two cups of the tea should be consumed fifteen minutes after drinking your citrus and olive oil flush.
But several cups can and should be consumed throughout the day. In fact, consuming the liver/detox tea as a regular part of your diet is a pleasant and tasty way to continually optimize your health. (Feel free to sweeten the tea with honey or real maple syrup as desired.)

Most liver detoxification teas will contain hepatics. These are herbs that target the liver. Some of them include aloe, balm, barberry, black root, celery, dandelion, fennel, golden seal, horseradish, hyssop, milk thistle, mountain grape, motherwort, prickly ash, wild indigo and yarrow. Herbs that are particularly good for liver cleansing are alteratives--herbs that cleanse the blood as well as the liver and increase the metabolism.
For detoxification, brew one or more of these dried herbs together by boiling them with water. Simmer slowly for 20 minutes and then let stand for 10 minutes before drinking. For increased detoxification power, you can mix the water with other well-known blood cleansing herbs such as lemon juice and cayenne pepper. Add the cayenne pepper to taste just before drinking. Cayenne becomes more potent as it sits in food and water.
1) Milk Thistle
Rich in an antioxidant known as silymarin, milk thistle has been found to boost liver function and shield the liver from the toxic effects of certain substances (such as alcohol and acetaminophen). There's also some evidence that milk thistle may promote regeneration of liver cells.
2) Burdock
Another herb shown to protect liver cells from alcohol- and acetaminophen-related damage, burdock is rich in inulin and mucilage (two types of fiber essential for healthy digestion and elimination). However, in order to obtain the potentially detox-promoting benefits of these two fibers, it may be necessary to consume burdock root as a whole food (rather than in tea form).
3) Dandelion
Some research suggests that dandelion may stimulate the flow of bile, a substance that helps transport toxins away from the liver to be excreted by the body. In addition, tests on animals indicate that dandelion may guard against liver damage induced by environmental toxins.
4) Artichoke
Laboratory research shows that artichoke contains caffeoylquinic acids, antioxidant substances shown to increase the flow of bile. Often touted for its toxin-fighting effects, artichoke is also said to trigger regeneration of liver cells. Read more about Artichoke.
