음릉천 SP9

SP9 (Spleen 9) - Acupuncture Point Information

Chinese Name: Yinlingquan 
English Name: Yin Tomb Spring 

Location: on the lower border of the medial condyle of the tibia, in the depression between the posterior border of the tibia and the gastrocnemius muscle. 

Nature:

He-Sea point of the Spleen channel.

Functions:

Regulates the Spleen, transforms damp stagnation, clears damp-heat (especially from lower jiao and genitals), benefits the lower jiao.

Primary Indications:

Spermatorrhoea, lin syndrome, urinary retention, knee pain.

Secondary Indications:

Oedema / ascites.

Tertiary Indications:

Abdominal distension, abdominal pain, jaundice, urinary incontinence, pain in external genitals, diarrhoea, dysentry, foot swelling, hernia, pain of low back and leg, menstrual disorders (irregular menses / dysmenorrhoea), poor appetite, nephritis.

Other Indications:

Peritonitis, cholera, fever with cold sensation, yin in the abdomen, cold in the abdomen, pain in foot with swollen knee, impotence, bi pain.

GB34 (Gall Bladder 34) - Acupuncture Point Information

Chinese Name: Yanglingquan 
English Name: Yang Tomb Spring 

Location: In the depression anterior and inferior to the head of the fibula.

Nature:

Lower He-Sea point of the Gall Bladder channel, one of the Eight Meeting Points: for tendons, 10th of Ma Dan Yang's Twelve Stars. 

Functions:

Strengthens tendons and bones, benefits the Liver and Gall Bladder, harmonizes the Liver, clears Heat from the Gall Bladder, clears Damp-Heat, eliminates dampness and transforms phlegm, eliminates Phlegm-Fire from the Stomach.

Primary Indications:

Pain in sides and ribs, hemiplegia, swelling and pain of knee.

Tertiary Indications:

Wei and Bi syndromes and numbness of lower limbs, foot swelling, bitter taste in mouth, vomiting, facial swelling, urinary incontinence, constipation, jaundice, infantile convulsions.

Other Indications:

Headache, hypertension, sensation of something obstructing throat, sighing, distension of Gall Bladder, peritonitis, perifocal inflammation of shoulder, windstrike hemiplegia.

CO10 (Colon 10) - Acupuncture Point Information

Chinese Name: Shousanli 
English Name: Hand Three Li 

Location: on the forearm, 2 cun distal to Quchi (CO11).

Functions:

Lowers nervous excitement and stimulates blood flow to the seat of illness, enhancing action of the leucocytes.

Primary Indications:

Swelling of submandibular region and cheek, upper limb paralysis.

Secondary Indications:

Spitting blood.

Tertiary Indications:

Abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhea, toothache, shoulder and arm pain, scrofula, facial paralysis, hemiplegia, loss of voice.

Other Indications:

Indigestion, ulcer, mastitis, neuraesthenia, ding boil, head wind, elbow cannot be extended, pain radiating from shoulder to navel, pain control.


족삼리 ST36

ST36 (Stomach 36) - Acupuncture Point Information

Chinese Name: Zusanli 
English Name: Leg Three Li 

Location: 3 cun below Dubi (ST35), one finger-breadth from the anterior crest of the tibia.

Nature:

Lower He-Sea point of the Stomach Channel, 1st of Ma Dan Yang's Twelve Stars, treat abdominally with Zusanli (upper and lower adbomen): Four Dominant Points Song. 

Functions:

Strengthens the Spleen, Harmonizes the Spleen and Stomach, Harmonizes the intestines and clears food stagnation, makes contravecting Qi descend and stops vomiting, regulates Qi and Blood, reinforces Xu conditions generally, eliminates Dampness, transforms Phlegm, prevents disease (enhances immune function), breaks up blood stagnation in the chest.

Primary Indications:

Indigestion, abdominal distension/pain, borborygmus, constipation, knee and shin ache (Bi syndrome).

Tertiary Indications:

百會

DU20 (Governing Vessel 20) - Acupuncture Point Information

Chinese Name: Baihui 
English Name: Hundred Meetings/Convergences 

Location: At the vertex of the head in a depression in the midline of the cranium on the line which joins the tip of one ear to the other. This point is 7 cun above the posterior hairline, and 5 cun above the anterior hairline.

Functions:

Clears the senses and calms the Shen, extinguishes Liver Wind, stabilizes ascending Yang.


Primary Indications:

Headache, eye-dizziness, nasal obstruction, tinnitus.  머리, 눈, 코, 귀

Secondary Indications:

Psychosis, wind-stroke with aphasia, rectal prolapse. 뇌, 직장

Tertiary Indications:

Uterine prolapse, haemorrhoids, hemiplegia, loss of memory, trismus, epilepsy, fear. 뇌, 탈장

KI1 (Kidney 1) - Acupuncture Point Information

Chinese Name: Yongquan 
English Name: Gushing Spring 

Location: In the depression appearing on the sole when the foot is in planter flexion, approximately at the junction of the anterior and middle third of the sole. 

Nature:

Jing-Well point of the Kidney channel, reducing point of the Kidney channel (Mother/Son).

Functions:

Opens the sensory orifices (for resuscitation), subdues Yin Xu Fire in the head, calms the Shen.

Primary Indications:

Sore throat, lin syndrome (dysuria), dry tongue, loss of voice (aphonia), diarrhoea.

Secondary Indications:

Infantile convulsions, vertex headache, dizziness/vertigo, blurred vision.

Tertiary Indications:

Loss of consciousness, difficulty in passing stools (dyschesia), soles of feet hot, epilepsy, palpitations, cardiac inflammation, mental disorders, epistaxis, pain in the tips of the toes, female infertility, hypertension, paralysis of the lower limbs (wei syndrome), memory loss, abdominal pain, foot swelling, poor appetite, cough, hernia, oedema, cholera with calm spasms.

Other Indications:

곡지 LI

CO11 (Colon 11) - Acupuncture Point Information

Chinese Name: Quchi 
English Name: Crooked Pond, also known as Guitui (Ghost Leg).

Location: When the elbow is flexed, the point is found in the depression at the lateral end of the transverse cubital crease, midway between Chize (LU5) and the lateral epicondyle of the humerus.

Nature:

He-Sea point of the Colon channel. NB: Although Quchi (CO11) does have some actions on the Colon, for disorders of the Colon organ the Lower He-Sea Point for the Colon, namely Shangjuxu (ST37) is generally preferred, Reinforcing point of Colon channel (Mother/Son), 12th of the 13 Ghost points.

Functions:

Eliminates Wind and exterior conditions, eliminates Wind-Heat, regulates the Blood, regulates the circulation of Qi and Blood, regulates the Blood in Hot Blood conditions, removes obstructions from the joints, general tonic effect, stimulates digestion and general metabolism when copled with Zusanli (ST36), for diseases of the uterus and for inflammation in general when coupled with Sanyinjiao (SP6).

Primary Indications:

Sore throat, upper limb paralysis.

Secondary Indications:

Febrile diseases with rashes.

Tertiary Indications:

Pain and swelling of upper limb, skin disorders (wind rash, eczema, erysipelas, abcess in the process of formation, dry/parched skin), irregular menstruation, scrofula, abdominal pain, dysentry, hemiplegia, wind-stroke, hypertension, toothache.

Other Indications:

Headache, goitre, anaemia, allergies, eyes red and painful, common cold, pleurisy, wrist joint pain, rheumatism of the knee, convulsions, madness with pain and itching "like insects biting".


척택 LU

LU5 (Lung 5) - Acupuncture Point Information

Chinese Name: Chize 
English Name: Cubit Marsh 

Location:

On the cubital crease, on the radial side of the tendon of m. biceps brachii. Locate with the elbow slightly flexed.

Nature:

He-Sea point of the Lung channel, reducing point of the Lung channel (Mother/Son).

Functions:

Drains heat in the Lungs, disperses cold from the Lungs, supresses rebellious Qi, pacifies Qi which is contravecting upwards, frees the tendons.

Primary Indications:

Cough, haemoptysis, asthma, fullness in the chest.

Secondary Indications:

Tidal fever.

Tertiary Indications:

Sore throat, elbow & arm spasm & pain, shoulder pain, pleurisy, pulmonary tuberculosis, infantile convulsions.

Other Indications:

Erysipelas, pneumonia, chest pain, breast abcess, cholera, hemiplegia, quadraplegia, facial nerve paralysis, shangan (cold injury), bi syndrome due to wind, general loss of sensitivity, madness, frequent sneezing, intercostal inflammation, dry mouth, vomiting, abdomen distended & painful, vomiting blood, pain in the kdineys, urinary frequency, atony of the bladder, contractures & muscular spasms, stiffness of vertebral column.


슬양관 GB33

GB33 (Gall Bladder 33) - Acupuncture Point Information

Chinese Name: Xiyangguan 
English Name: Knee Yang Hinge 

Location: When the knee is extended, the point is 3 cun above Yanglinquan (GB34) lateral to the knee joint, in the depression between the tendon of biceps femoris and the femur.

Functions:

Dispels Wind-Cold (treats Bi syndrome), soothes the tendons, relieves pain.

Primary Indications:

Swelling and pain of knee.

Tertiary Indications:

Contracture of tendons in popliteal fossa, numbness of leg, foot swelling, paralysis of lower limbs.

Other Indications:

Vomiting, arthritis, sciatic neuralgia.

三陰交  脾 肝 腎경이 만나는 점

SP6 (Spleen 6) - Acupuncture Point Information

Chinese Name: Sanyinjiao 
English Name: Three Yin Crossing 

Location: 3 cun directly above the tip of the medial malleolus, on the posterior border of the tibia, on the line drawn from the medial malleolus to Yinlingquan (SP9).

Precautions: Forbidden to needle during pregnancy (stimulates uterine contraction).

Nature:

Meeting point of the Three Foot Yin channels.

Functions:

Strengthens Spleen and Stomach, aids spleens transforming and transporting functions, transforms dampness, spreads Liver Qi, benefits Kidneys, invigorates the circulation of Qi and Blood, dispels Wind-Damp from the jing-luo (bi syndrome), major point in gynaecology and obstetrics, major point for insomnia.


Primary Indications:

Stomach & Spleen Xu (poor digestion / poor appetite / xu vomiting ), borborygmus with abdominal distension, menstrual disorders (irregular menses / amenorrhoea / dysmenorrhoea / menorrhagia), spermatorrhoea, lin syndrome (dysuria) urinary incontinence, oedema.

Secondary Indications:

Insomnia.

Tertiary Indications:

Diarrhoea, vaginal discharge, uterine haemorrhage, uterine prolapse, female infertility, difficult labour, retention of lochia, restless foetus, dizziness/vertigo, impotence, pain in penis or scrotum, hernia, paralysis of lower extremities (wei syndrome), bi syndrome of legs, knee pain, foot swelling, abdominal pain, cold limbs, skin rashes, heavy sensation in body.

PC6 (Pericardium 6) - Acupuncture Point Information

Chinese Name: Neiguan 
English Name: Inner Gate 

Location: 2 cun above the transverse crease of the wrist, between the tendons of m. palmaris longus and m. flexor carpi radialis.

Nature:

Luo-Connecting point of the Pericardium channel, Master/Key/Confluent point of Yinweimai (often coupled with Gongsun SP4)

Functions:

Calms the Heart and the spirit, calms the mind, regulates the Qi, regulates the Heart Qi, suppresses pain, "For chest & ribs (sides) use Neiguan" (Ming Dynasty poem), special effects on diseases of chest and abdomen, generally used for cardiovascular, digestive and mental problems, special point for all disorders of the stomach, gall bladder, spleen and heart, regulates the middle jiao, research: causes vasoconstriction.


Primary Indications:

Cardiac pain, palpitations, epilepsy, vomiting, contracture and pain of elbow and arm.

Secondary Indications:

Malaria, febrile diseases.

Tertiary Indications:

Gastric pain, psychosis, chest pain and fullness, hiccough(hiccup), wind-stroke, jaundice, post partum vertigo/syncope, dyspnoea/asthma

Other Indications:

SJ5 (Sanjiao 5) - Acupuncture Point Information

Chinese Name: Waiguan 
English Name: Outer Gate 

Location: on the dorsal surface of the forearm, 2 cun above the transverse wrist crease, between the radius and the ulna.

Nature:

Luo-Connecting point of the Sanjiao channel, Confluent (Master/Key) point of Yangweimai.

Functions:

Relieves exterior and Hot conditions, dispels Wind or Wind-Heat (External or Internal), facilitates circulation of stagnant Qi in the channels, invigorates the Luomai, relaxes the tendons.

Primary Indications:

Headache, tinnitus, deafness, pain in fingers, elbow and arm pain and motor impairment, hand tremor.

Secondary Indications:

Febrile diseases.

Tertiary Indications:

Common cold, pain in cheek, mumps, pain in sides/ribs, hemiplegia, constipation.

Other Indications:

Swollen throat, adenitis (scrofula), enuresis, stiff neck, paralysis, inflammation of eyes, wind hyperlacrimation, cataract, leukoma, placenta does not descend

Chinese Name: Yinjiao 
English Name: - 

Location: on the anterior midline, 1 cun below the umbilicus.

Indications:

Abdominal distension, edema, hernia, irregular menstruation, uterine bleeding, morbid leukorrhea, pruritus vulvae, postpartum hemorrhage, abdominal pain around the umbilicus.

GB35 (Gall Bladder 35) - Acupuncture Point Information

Chinese Name: Yangjiao 
English Name: Yang Crossing 

Location: 7 cun above the tip of the external malleolus, on the posterior border of the fibula.

Nature:

Crossing point of the three Yang channels of the leg, Accumulation point of the Yang Linking Vessel. 

Functions:

Relaxes sinews, removes obstructions from the channel, stops pain.

Indications:

Fullness of the chest and hypochondriac region, muscular atrophy and paralysis of the leg.

REN17 (Conception Vessel 17) - Acupuncture Point Information

Chinese Name: Tanzhong (or Shanzhong) 
English Name: Centre of the Chest 

Location: In the midline of the sternum, between the nipples level with the 4th intercostal space.

Nature:

Front-Mu point of the Pericardium, one of the Bahui (Eight Meetings) for Qi, gathering point for Qi, point of the Sea of Qi.

Functions:

Regulates and suppresses rebellious Qi, expands the chest, benefits the diaphgram, clears the lungs, resolves phlegm in the chest.

Primary Indications:

Asthma, chest pain, dysphagia.

Secondary Indications:

Insufficient lactation.

Tertiary Indications:

Mastitis, cough.

Other Indications:

Intercostal neuralgia, pleurisy, tumours on the neck, hiccough, blood stasis in chest, palpitations, gastric cancer, cramps in cholera, unconsciousness, Qi xu, sensation of Qi rising and assailing, sensation of obstruction in chest, pains due to Wind, "Singing" in the throat, vomiting mucoid sputum and saliva, vomiting all that is eaten, baby's milk vomiting.

HT3 (Heart 3) - Acupuncture Point Information

Chinese Name: Shaohai 
English Name: Lesser Sea; Shaoyin Sea 

Location: When the elbow is flexed, this point is at the medial end of the transverse cubital crease, in the depression anterior to the medial epicondyle of the humerus. 

Nature:

He-Sea point of the Heart channel.

Functions:

Calms the Shen, regulates the Heart Qi, clears the vessels, invigorates the collaterals, relaxes the tendons, special point for scrofula.

Primary Indications:

Cardiac pain, arm numbness, hand tremor, elbow contracture.

Secondary Indications:

Scrofula.

Tertiary Indications:

Pain in axilla & sides, headache, psychosis, memory loss, dizziness, stiff neck, toothache, vomiting, debility of the limbs.

Other Indications:

Cold fingers, ulnar nerve neuralgia, neuraesthenia, epilepsy - bleats like a lamb, hiccoughs, fever with chills, sensation of energy rising to the upper body, swelling of arm & forearm.


小海

SI8 (Small Intestine 8) - Acupuncture Point Information

Chinese Name: Xiaohai 
English Name: Small Sea; Small Intestine Sea 

Location: With the arm flexed, this point can be found between the olecranon of the ulna and the medial epicondyle of the humerus.

Nature:

He-Sea point of the small Intestine channel, reducing point of the Small Intestine channel (Mother/Son). 

Functions:

For disorders of the Small Intestine, use the Lower He-Sea point for the Small Intestine channel, Xiajuxu (ST39).

Primary Indications:

Swelling of the cheek, pain in nape and submandibular region, pain in shoulder/scapula/elbow and lateroposterior aspect of arm.

Secondary Indications:

Epilepsy.

Tertiary Indications:

Dizziness, tinnitus/deafness, toothache, psychosis, lower abdominal pain.

Other Indications:

Chorea, swelling of neck, painful tumour of neck with shivering, neuralgia or paralysis of ulnar nerve, swelling of elbow and arm, spasms and paralysis of upper arm and neck, epicondylitis, elbow joint arthritis, insensitivity of arm, rheumatism (Bi syndrome), neuralgia of lumbar region, fever with sensation of cold, yellow sclera, blepharitis.
