About Location Reporting & Location History
Google apps or services may use Location History and Location Reporting data. For example, Google Maps may use it to improve your search results based on the places that you’ve been.
- Location Reporting: Allows Google to periodically store and use your device's most recent location data, as well as activities like driving, walking, and biking, in connection with your Google Account.
- Location History: Allows Google to store a history of your location data from all devices where you are logged into your Google Account and have enabled Location Reporting. You can turn off Location History at any point, but doing so won’t delete your Location History. It also will not turn off Location Reporting, GPS, or Wi-Fi location services for your device.
Manage location access, Location Reporting & Location History
Google Settings (in your device’s apps menu) allows you to manage location access for Google apps. You can also turn Location Reporting and Location History on and off in Google Settings, as well as view Location History on a mobile device or computer using the Account History website.
If you’re using a Google Apps for Business, Education, and Government account, your administrator may need to grant you access to these settings.
Access location
This setting is only on devices running Android 4.1 to Android 4.3 or lower. It isn't on Nexus devices running Android 4.4.
You can control how Google apps use your location with one easy setting. This setting only controls Google apps. If you turn this setting off, Google services that aren't apps and non-Google apps may still receive your location from the device.
To change your location settings for Google apps, follow these steps:
- Open Google Settings
from your device’s apps menu.
- Touch Location.
- Touch the box next to "Access location." The setting turns off when the checkmark disappears.
- To turn this setting back on, simply touch the box next to "Access location" until a checkmark appears.
Location Reporting
Location Reporting in Google Settings is available on devices running Android 2.3 or higher and have Google Maps for mobile 6.14.5 or higher installed.
Location Reporting allows Google to periodically store and use your device's most recent location data, as well as activities like driving, walking, and biking, in connection with your Google Account.
Location Reporting is a per-device setting and can potentially use a lot of data. We recommend that you review your data plan before using this feature. If Location Reporting is not available in your region, it’s automatically turned off for that device.
How often Location Reporting updates your location data isn't fixed. Frequency is determined by factors like how much battery life your device has, if you’re moving, or how fast you’re moving. Location Reporting will only use cell ID or Wi-Fi location detection depending on your device.
Turn Location Reporting on or off using Google Settings
- Open Google Settings from your device’s apps menu.
- Devices running Android 4.3 or lower: Touch Location > Location Reporting.
- Devices running Android 4.4: Touch Account History > Google Location History > Location Reporting.
- Slide the switch ON or OFF.
- For Android 2.3-3.0 devices, check the box next to "Location Reporting."
Turn Location Reporting on or off using the Location menu in Google Settings
This setting is available on devices running Android 4.4.
- Open Google Settings from your device’s apps menu.
- Touch Location > Google Location Reporting > Location Reporting.
- Slide the switch ON or OFF.
Location History
Location History in Google Settings is available on devices running Android 2.3 or higher and have Google Maps for mobile 6.14.5 or higher installed.
Location History allows Google to store a history of your location data from all devices where you are logged into your Google Account and have enabled Location Reporting.
If you turn off Location History, it's turned off for all devices associated with that Google Account.
Turn Location History on or off using Google Settings
- Open Google Settings from your device’s apps menu.
- Devices running Android 4.3 or lower: Touch Location > Location History.
- Devices running Android 4.4: Touch Account History > Google Location History > Location History.
- Slide the switch ON or OFF.
- For Android 2.3-3.0 devices, check the box next to "Location Reporting."
Turn Location History on or off using the Account History website
- Go to google.com/settings/accounthistory.
- Sign in to the Google Account you want associated with your location.
- Select the “Places you’ve been” card.
- Select Enable or Pause, depending on your current setting.
- After reading the notification, select the button to enable or pause location history.
Delete Location History
You can delete your Location History in Google Settings (in your device's apps menu) or by visiting the Location History website.
If you delete Location History from Google Settings, all of your history will be deleted. This can’t be reverted, and it may cause some apps like Google Now to experience problems. To delete certain segments of your history, follow the steps to delete Location History using the Location History website.
Delete Location History using Google Settings
- Open Google Settings from your device’s apps menu:
- Devices running Android 4.3 or lower: Touch Location > Location History.
- Devices running Android 4.4: Touch Account History > Google Location History > Location History.
- Touch Delete Location History at the bottom of the screen.
- Read the dialog box that appears, check the box next to “I understand and want to delete,” and touch Delete.
Delete Location History using the Location History website
On the Location History website, you can delete individual locations, locations by date, or your entire location history. The Location History website is not launched in Korea.
To delete your location history using the Location History website, follow these steps:
- Log in to your Google account on maps.google.com/locationhistory.
- You can choose to delete the following information:

위치 정보 전송 및 위치 기록 정보
Google 앱 또는 서비스에서 위치 기록 및 위치 정보 전송 데이터를 사용할 수 있습니다. 예를 들어 Google 지도에서 사용자가 방문했던 장소를 기반으로 검색결과를 개선하기 위해 이러한 정보를 사용할 수 있습니다.
- 위치 정보 전송: Google 계정에 연결된 사용자 기기의 최근 위치 데이터와 운전, 걷기, 자전거 타기 등의 활동을 Google에서 주기적으로 저장하고 사용하도록 허용합니다.
- 위치 기록: Google 계정에 로그인하고 위치 정보 전송을 사용하도록 설정한 모든 기기의 위치 데이터 기록을 Google에서 저장하도록 허용합니다. 언제든지 위치 기록을 사용 중지할 수 있지만 사용을 중지해도 저장된 위치 기록은 삭제되지 않습니다. 기기의 위치 정보 전송, GPS, Wi-Fi 위치 서비스 사용도 중지되지 않습니다.
위치 정보 액세스, 위치 정보 전송, 위치 기록 관리
Google 설정(기기의 앱 메뉴)을 사용하면 Google 앱의 위치 정보 이용 권한을 관리할 수 있습니다. Google 설정에서 위치 정보 전송 및 위치 기록을 사용하거나 사용 중지할 수 있으며 휴대기기나 컴퓨터에서 계정 기록 웹사이트를 사용하여 위치 기록을 확인할 수 있습니다.
Google Apps for Business, Google Apps for Education, Google Apps for Government 계정을 사용 중인 경우 관리자가 사용자에게 설정 액세스 권한을 부여해야 할 수 있습니다.
위치 정보 액세스
이 설정은 Android 4.1 이상 Android 4.3 이하를 사용하는 기기에서 사용할 수 있습니다. Android 4.4를 실행하는 Nexus 기기에는 해당하지 않습니다.
간편한 설정으로 Google 앱이 내 위치를 사용하는 방식을 관리할 수 있습니다. 이 설정은 Google 앱에만 해당합니다. 이 설정을 사용 중지하더라도 앱이 아닌 형태로 제공되는 Google 서비스 및 타사 앱은 기기로부터 내 위치를 수신할 수 있습니다.
Google 앱에 대한 위치 설정을 변경하려면 다음의 단계를 따르세요.
- 기기의 앱 메뉴에서 Google 설정 을 엽니다.
- 위치를 터치합니다.
- '위치 정보 액세스' 옆의 체크박스를 터치합니다. 체크 표시가 사라지면 설정이 사용 중지됩니다.
- 이 설정을 다시 사용하려면 체크 표시가 나타나도록 '위치 정보 액세스' 옆의 체크박스를 터치합니다.
위치 정보 전송
Google 설정에서 위치 정보 전송은 Android 2.3 이상을 실행하며 모바일용 Google 지도 6.14.5 이상이 설치된 기기에서 사용할 수 있습니다.
위치 정보 전송을 사용하면 Google 계정에 연결된 사용자 기기의 가장 최근 위치 데이터와 운전, 걷기, 자전거 타기 등의 활동을 Google에서 주기적으로 저장하고 사용할 수 있습니다.
위치 정보 전송은 기기별로 설정할 수 있으며 잠재적으로 데이터 용량을 많이 사용할 수 있습니다. 이 기능을 사용하기 전에 사용 중인 데이터 요금제를 확인하는 것이 좋습니다. 현재 지역에서 위치 정보 전송을 사용할 수 없는 경우 해당 기기에서 위치 정보 전송이 자동으로 중지됩니다.
위치 정보 전송에서 위치 데이터 업데이트 빈도는 정해져 있지 않습니다. 빈도는 기기의 배터리 수명이나 이동 여부, 이동 속도 등의 다양한 요소에 따라 결정됩니다. 기기에 따라 셀 ID나 Wi-Fi 위치 탐색만 사용하여 위치 정보를 전송하기도 합니다.

- 기기의 앱 메뉴에서 Google 설정 을 엽니다.
- Android 4.3 이하를 실행하는 기기: 위치 > 위치 정보 전송을 터치합니다.

- 내 위치에 연결하려는 Google 계정에 로그인합니다.
- '내가 방문한 곳' 카드를 선택합니다.
- 현재 설정에 따라 사용 또는 사용 중지를 선택합니다.
- 알림을 읽은 다음 버튼을 선택하여 위치 기록을 사용 또는 사용 중지합니다.
위치 기록 삭제
기기 앱 메뉴에 있는 Google 설정을 사용하거나 위치 기록 웹사이트를 방문하여 위치 기록을 삭제할 수 있습니다.
Google 설정에서 위치 기록을 삭제하면 모든 위치 기록이 삭제됩니다. 삭제된 기록은 복구할 수 없으며 Google Now 등 일부 앱에서 문제가 발생할 수 있습니다. 일부 기록만 삭제하려면 다음 단계에 다라 위치 기록 웹사이트에서 삭제하세요.

- Android 4.3 이하를 실행하는 기기: 위치 > 위치 기록을 터치합니다.

- 표시되는 대화상자를 읽은 다음 '삭제하고 싶습니다.' 옆 체크박스를 선택하고 삭제를 터치합니다.
위치 기록 웹사이트에서 위치 기록 삭제
위치 기록 웹사이트에서 개별 위치, 날짜별 위치, 전체 위치 기록을 삭제할 수 있습니다. 대한민국에서는 위치 기록 웹사이트가 출시되지 않았습니다.
위치 기록 웹사이트에서 위치 기록을 삭제하려면 다음 단계를 따르세요.
- maps.google.com/locationhistory에서 Google 계정에 로그인합니다.
- 다음의 정보를 선택하여 삭제할 수 있습니다.
- 전체 기록: 저장된 모든 위치 기록을 삭제하려면 모든 기록 삭제를 클릭합니다.
- 날짜별: 선택한 날짜의 기록을 삭제하려면 이 날짜의 기록 삭제를 선택합니다. 날짜 범위를 선택한 다음 이 기간의 기록 삭제를 선택하면 표시된 모든 날짜의 기록이 삭제됩니다.
- 개별 위치별: 목록 또는 지도에서 개별 위치를 선택합니다. 도움말 풍선에서 기록에 있는 과거 위치를 삭제하도록 선택합니다.
- Entire history: Select Delete all history to delete all stored history.
- By date: Choose Delete history from this day to delete history for the date you selected. If you select a range of days and choose Delete history from this time period, you'll delete the history for all of the days you're viewing.
- By individual location: Select an individual location from the list or map. In the bubble, choose to delete that past location from your history.
