PROJECT SERP0 - Alien Exchange Program  (1965-78)

The fantastic cosmic journey of the twelve brave Americans

It was a very warm day in the super secret United States airbase known as Area 51, situated in the heart of Nevada and a great distance from curious eyes. The Sonoran desert region temperature as this time of the year soared to over a l00 degrees Farenheit, and hardly a breeze stirred among the ancient and hardy Joshua trees.

A group of young people , dressed in deep blue military fatigues, had their left arm band sewn boldly the tiny American flag and their right emblazoned the dark triangle - the Eben's planetary symbol. Well-trained in survival techniques and groomed in meeting contingencies; patiently and expectantly, they waited at the entrance of the huge zinc hut, a well-disguised airplane hanger from the prying electronic eyes of foreign satellites above them!

As they continued to gaze in unison skyward, there suddenly appeared from afar three distinctive flying saucers. And these craft were heading their way at extremely high speed. They appeared to be the classical crafts - similar to two inverted dinner plates stucked together with a doom on top.

Then two saucers took up defense formation above, while one saucer descending soundlessly upon the dry desert floor and momentarily stirring up the dust into a little thin storm. It soon settled on the ground, about a 100 feet away from the group. What appeared to be a hatch suddenly slided open on the seamless structured craft and out stepped three bulbous-head, grey aliens in their shinning outfit. They raised their right hands in a gesture of friendly greeting.

Several unmarked trailers sped toward the landed saucer and supplies were loaded aboard - almost 92,000 lbs(=41.7 tons). into its interior, assisted by a band of Ebens. The loads consisted of essential electric appliances, scientific observational tools and a mountain of army C-rations to enable the adventurers to partake and subsist for at least two years or a little more on a faraway planet which was nearly 37.5 light years from earth. This strange planet was named Serpo and it revolved around two suns in a distant solar system known to earth-based astronomers as Zeta Reticuli. This system is located within our Milky Way galaxy.

After all the supplies were loaded aboard the saucer, the strange-looking occupants called Ebens - large heads with oversized tear-drop, darkened eyes, thin necks attaching to fragile trunks, they oddly looked to be between 3.5 to 4.5 feet in height, reentered the ship.

Then the twelve - ten young men and two comely women in their early twenties - swiftly turned around and after a short prayer to Almighty God for blessing and protection, they reluctantly bid an emotional farewell to their colleagues , since they would be away from home for the ten years duration on Planet Serpo.

They were specially chosen for their expertise in various fields, such as medicine, biology/zoology, exo-botany, psychology, archaeology, astro-physics, language and symbol specialization, culture and even ancient music. Among them was one security expert who was also a master in Oriental martial arts and served as their guardian for the duration of their stay on Serpo. He was allowed to bear arms too, to protect the group in case of unpredicted danger to life and limb.

However, little did these twelve ambassadors of cosmic truth realized that because of the odd orbital nature of the host planet on Zeta Reticuli, their precise time piece, clocks and watches failed to synchronize properly and they ended up erroneously by over staying for thirteen years instead of ten (1965-78), before finally returning home to earth!

On the whole, their trip abroad the Eben's scout craft and later being transformed midway into a gigantic shuttle craft was quite uneventful, saved that there was the unplesantness of eating the alien's food and the inconvenience of emptying their bowls in Eben-provided cans which continued to be emptied.

As the shuttle craft was traveling at more than 50 times the speed of light, the group often felt bodily discomforts like dizziness, throwing up, disorientated and light headedness to which the Ebens tried to cure them by shinning a bluish light into their heads and drinking certain strange Eben liquid medicine to achieve temporarily relieve.

Much to their sense of relief, the shuttle craft that bore the twelve landed in the equatorial region of Serpo. It was exceptionally warm and gradually they fell sick to the powerful radiation of the two suns overhead, and this was inspite of them wearing protective clothing and dark sunglasses when they went outdoors.

The Ebens treated them with consideration and courtesy and didn't attempt to interfere in the team's daily activities of mingling and observing the daily life of the Serpo inhabitants.

The Serporeans' diet consisted mainly of vegetarain food which they grow both indoors and outdoors as well. The team tried to conserve their dwindling supplies of C-rations by supplementing their diet with Eben food. Their food conservation measures resulted in them having to endured acute constipation and other gastrointestinal symptoms. Eventually when their supplies ran out after more than two years' time, they were compelled to eat the unaccustomed Eben food . Ironically, the Ebens didnt keep domesticated animals for consumption - like pigs, goats, sheep, cows and chickens. They didn't own pets like horses, cats and dogs. Their diet was essentially vegetarian.

Eventually too, the team was forced to move toward the northern region where the temperature was cooler and the dual suns' radiation not so intensed. They dwelt in a community or the commonly shared mud huts that were built for them by the Ebens.

A sad day came when one team member died of an accident. The team cried. When the Ebens witnessed the team's emotion, they sympathized and carried the lifeless body into a building that looked like a hospital and placed it tenderly upon a large metal bed. Then the Ebens directed a bluish-green ray on the body. But the graph on several monitors which looked like TV screens registered only a straight line instead of the hopeful wavy line. The Ebens shooked their heads in sadness and returned the body to the team. They put the cadaver in a metal container and had it buried. It was exhumed 13 years later when the whole team returned to earth.

The terrain in the northern region of Serpo was quite mountainous and snowed to a depth of twelve feet at times.

The water had to be boiled because the team detected bacterials and other unknown chemical compounds.

An aerial vehicle which resembled a helicopter was placed at the disposal of the team, who mastered its flying intricacies in no time.

The team observed past volcanic activities. on one occasion on their wide ranging explorations, they encountered an animal with woolly neck hairs and the size of an ox to which they named it the beast.
It appeared to be docile. They also observed another animal which looked like a mountain lion. They found eel-like creatures in the water but no fish. There was the entire absence of flying insects like butterflies, bees and flies. But they caught a few hard-shelled insects that resembled small cockroaches.

The team once met an armadillo-like creature that tried to attacked them but was frightened off by the Eben guide armed with a sonic device. There was a hostile encounter with one creature that look like a huge serpent - some fifteen feet in length and l.5 feet in diameter. Most conspicuous was that this serpent had a pair of human-like eyes! The serpent exhibited extremely hostility and tried to attacked the team to which the security man shot it with a side arm. The team consequently dissected the serpent including the eyes which contained sensitive cones inside. The Serporean guide discouraged the team for wanting to eat the serpent's flesh.

-------------
In l978, the team's stay on Planet Serpo was over and the time had come to return home on earth. The team had now been reduced to eight surviving members, as two died and two choose to remain with the Serporeans. Nothing was ever heard of again on this two, as the exchange program was discontinued in l998 during the Clinton Adminstration.

The team loaded abroad the return Eben craft with a precious load of recording equipment and their daily entries which formed a common diary of some 3,000 pages plus two attachments of hundreds of photographs..

The eight team members bid goodbye to their Eben host and their two remaining colleagues.

They boarded the new shuttle craft which was piloted by the highly competent Serporeans. This time the return journey took only seven months instead of nine when they once traveled to Serpo!

In the end, the brave eight survivors were debriefed by agents of the Defense Intelligence Agency in Washington, D.C., and let go to their respective homes. They were continued to be monitored until their demise for security reasons.

Despite their dedication, loyalty and sense of duty to their country, they remained unknown and unrecognized.

The last survivor passed away in Florida in the year 2000 A.D. However, these unsung heroes would never be forgotten, though they were not awarded the Congressional Medal of Honour to which they richly and timely deserved..
